一天划分为24小时，一年（从立春开始算哦，不是正月初一）划分为24节气！

24节气，是古人透由观察太阳的运动而形成的时间知识体系。春夏秋冬各三个月，每个月有一个节与一个气。北半球《白天最长的夏至》 和 《白天最短的冬至》 的周而复始，反映了时季气候的变化规律，指导着农业生产和日常生活。在24节气里，冬至是第一个被确定的节气；周秦时期，冬至等同于现今的大年初一，所以便有 ”冬至大过年“ 和 ”吃汤圆加一岁“ 的说法。

• 小暑 Minor Heat (Heat begins to build)

• 大暑 Major Heat (Hottest time of the year)

• 立秋 Start of Autumn

• 处暑 Limit of Heat (Heat begins to go away)

• 白露 White Dew

• 秋分 Autumn Equinox (Central divide of Autumn)

• 寒露 Cold Dew (Dew begins to turn into frost)

• 霜降 Descent of Frost

• 立冬 Start of Winter

• 小雪 Minor Snow (Snow begins to fall)

• 大雪 Major Snow (Snowstorms in full swing)

• 冬至 Winter Solstice (Shortest day of the year)

• 小寒 Minor Cold (Cold begins to build)

• 大寒 Major Cold (coldest time of the year)

Added to the UNESCO world intangible cultural heritage in 2016, the 24 solar terms knowledge system and social practice of the Chinese, was formed via the observation of the sun's annual motion. Akin to a day being divided into 24 hours, this system divides a year into 24 Solar Terms.

Each season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter) consist of 3 months, and each month consist of 2 solar terms.

The very first Solar Term that was being defined was the Winter Solstice (marking the start of a new year then) during the Zhou-Qin Dynasty period. Hence, it is quite common to relate new year to The Winter Solstice. No wonder we always grew a year older whenever we have our dumplings in sugar water.
